The $2,500 NL event saw a starting field of 1,734 players which created a prize pool of nearly $4m and set a first-place prize of $749,610. Now we are left with just 296 competitors after an action-packed day that saw over 1,400 players bust out.

Just after we publish an Editorial lauding Phil Hellmuth he reinforces our point with another final table and another runner-up spot at the 2011 World Series of Poker. Hellmuth battled his way to the final table of the $10,000 Stud 8 Championship event, eventually taking second after losing out to Eric Rodawig heads-up.

The first ever six-handed Omaha event to hit the WSOP (excluding one-tenth of the $2,500 10-Game Mix) carried the same $5,000 buy-in as the full ring event won by Chance Kornuth last year and attracted a field of 507 players. This gave us a prize pool of nearly $2.4m with the winner set to take home $619,575.

Another monster field usually only seen in $5 rebuys online entered Event #32 of the 2011 WSOP with 2,828 players putting up $1,500 for one of the cheaper No Limit Hold ‘em events on the schedule. After three days Kirk Cadwell has his own plus all 2,827 other stacks as well as the WSOP bracelet and $668,292.

Another niche mixed game, another stellar field. After two days of play the 168-strong field for the Seven-Card Stud 8-or-Better Championship has been narrowed down to just 18 players, nearly in the money and all with their sights set on a bracelet.

Online players Shaun Deeb and John D’Agostino were beaten to the bracelet in the inaugural $2,500 10-Game Mix event last night by an online player considered old school by 2011; Chris “Genius28” Lee fought his way through NL, PLO, Omaha 8, 2-7 Triple Draw, Stud, Stud 8, Razz, Limit Hold ‘em, NL 2-7 Draw and Badugi.

The $1,500 NL event began the day with a field of 362 narrowed down from a starting line-up of 2,828 players. When we return for Day 3 tomorrow we will do so with just 35 competitors and Dror Michaelo leading the way with a monstrous stack of 876,000; nearly three times the average.

Another huge field turned out for the thousand-dollar-donkament event with 3,144 players entering the cheapest event of the WSOP; at the end of Day 1 and ten levels of play we are left exactly in the money with 323 players remaining in contention.

Hopes were high going into yesterday's play at the Rio that we would be toasting more British success. Unfortunately, Chris Moorman finished just short in the $2.5 No Limit Hold'em Six Max event busting out in third place.

The second day of the online-packed $2,500 6-max No Limit Hold ‘em event has seen the field of 1,378 whittled all the way down to just 22 players and well into the money. Anthony Ruberto leads the field with over 1.5m in chips but right behind him is UK player and online MTT giant Chris “moorman1” Moorman.
