What a month it has been for Ben Lamb. The American has already won the the $10k PLO Championship bracelet, was runner up in the $3k PLO event, made the final table of the Players' Championship and finished twelfth in the $10k Six-Max Championship and now holds the chip lead after the second opening day flight of the Main Event.

Amongst all the ballyhoo surrounding the Main Event there was the small matter of two bracelets to be decided. The hard stop rule brought a premature close to the $5k PLO Split 8 or Better event and the final $1.5k No Limit Hold'em tournament.

Day 1A traditionally attracts the smallest field of the the opening flights of the Main Event but that still meant a very healthy starting line up of 897 players. Comparing that figure with previous years we can expect a Main Event field somewhere in the region of 5,400 but given the way this year's WSOP has played out it could easily be much higher.

Maxim Lykov is two thirds of the way towards a triple crown after winning the final $1k No Limit Hold'em at the 2011 WSOP. The 2009 EPT Kiev winner went into yesterday's final table as the chip leader and never looked in trouble, working his way through a final nine that included Sebastian Roy, Josh Evans, Stanislav Alekhin and Ren Ho Zhang.

Day 3 of the $1,000 NL event saw 44 players return to the felt; 35 of them have been eliminated leaving us with a final table lead by PokerStars Pro Maxim Lykov who has had a rollercoaster day leading to a huge chip lead – his 3.9m stack is almost 25 big blinds ahead of second place and represents nearly a quarter of the chips in play.

The final small buy-in NL donkament of the 2011 WSOP is underway with another gigantic field – this time, 3,389 players signed up for the event which means that one of the 465 players left in contention will be turning their $1,500 into a huge first prize of $777,928. Currently the man most likely to do that is Ben Volpe, but anything can happen.
