WSOP 2011 – Sean Getzwiller wins Event #8 $1,000 NL

We were within one heads-up battle of taking bracelet number three back to Blighty in Las Vegas last night but were unfortunately denied by Sean Getzwiller, who defeated Sadan Turker heads-up for the title of the $1,000 No-Limit Hold ‘em event and $611,185 plus the appropriate jewellery.

WSOP 2011 – $1,500 Triple Chance final table set

Technically, the final table has not been set as ten players are remaining with the final table officially starting at nine. They are all around one table, though, so that’ll do. Of the 1,340 players in the $1,500 Triple Chance event it's Nicholas Rampone who has the most chips.

Again, Britain was achingly close to another bracelet at the 2011 World Series of Poker this year with the $1,500 6-max event that saw David Vamplew, winner of EPT London last year, take a big chip lead to the final table. Unfortunately he busted in fourth with twice-6-max-WSOP-bracelet-winner Jeffrey Papola exiting in third.

WSOP 2011 – Marco Traniello leads $3,000 Limit Hold ‘em

We all know that Jennifer Harman is or was at one point considered to be one of the best Limit Hold ‘em players in the world – she didn’t write a chapter of Super/System 2 for nothing. Now, we’re not using her husband Marco Traniello’s chip lead in the $3,000 Limit Hold ‘em event as proof of poker skill transferring via osmosis, but...

Just over a week into the 2011 WSOP there are already two bracelets heading back to Blighty (or more specifically Rochdale) care of Jake Cody and Matt Perrins. Could a third be in the offing? Well it certainly looks that way as Londoner Sadan Turker holds a big chip lead with just 3 players remaining in event #8 the $1k NL Hold'em.

This time four days ago, Matt Perrins had never played Deuce to Seven No Limit. In the early hours of his morning, Matt Perrins won the $1,500 2-7 NL single draw event to take his first ever bracelet and the UK’s second of 2011.

WSOP 2011 - $1,000 NL event reduced to just 73 players
WSOP 2011 - $1,000 NL event reduced to just 73 players

We’re well in the money in the first $1,000 NL event of 2011 with less than eight tables of players left from the 4,178 that began this event on Days 1a and 1b. All remaining players are guaranteed more than $5,000 for their efforts thus far but all eyes look to the final table with almost $50k for ninth and a first prize of over $600,000.

WSOP 2011 – Omaha 8 $10,000 Championship Day 1 complete
WSOP 2011 – Omaha 8 $10,000 Championship Day 1 complete

It’s a shame that Omaha Hi/Lo is such a boring game to watch – not enough all-ins, too many split pots – because this event of the World Series of Poker is a truly great one that really brings out the cream of the crop.
