WSOP 2011 – Omaha 8 $10,000 Championship Day 1 complete

Tuesday, 7 June 2011

It’s a shame that Omaha Hi/Lo is such a boring game to watch – not enough all-ins, too many split pots – because this event of the World Series of Poker is a truly great one that really brings out the cream of the crop.

Just take a look at the top ten in chips – Tom “durrrr” Dwan, both Freddy and Shaun Deeb, Eugene Katchalov, John “World” Hennigan and Todd Brunson are joined by 2011 bracelet-winners Allen Bari and Harrison Wilder.

They’re all trailing Eric Buchman, though – he leads the remaining 178 of 202 players in this field with 105,500 and is thus the only player to have crossed into six figures. Freddy Deeb is his closest competitor on 82,800. $1.5k Limit Hold ‘em champ and $5k NL champ Harrison Wilder and Allen Bari are 4th and 5th with Eugene Katchalov, Tom Dwan, Shaun Deeb, John Hennigan and Todd Brunson making up the rest of the top ten chips.

Of the other 168 survivors not in the top ten counts there is still some massive poker talent – John Juanda, Richard Ashby, Daniel Negreanu, Daniel Alaei and James Dempsey all survived with above-average stacks. Also in the field are Vanessa Selbst, Frank Kassela, David Benyamine and Chris Bjorin.
