Justin Pechie is the latest bracelet holder at the Rio after winning his third STT to take the $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout event. The American beat a final table that included Ari Engel, Jordan Rich and Team PokerStars pro Eugene Katchalov to take home a first prize of $167,060.

Hopes were high amongst the British rail that there would be a fourth UK bracelet to celebrate at this year's WSOP. Unfortunately it was a case of close but no cigar for the Brits as Tom Middleton, Paul Nash and Jonathan Spinks all went close but couldn't bag the jewellery.

Phil Hellmuth is once again the big story at the World Series of Poker this week. After finishing runner up to John Juanda in the $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship, Hellmuth once again came tantalisingly close to bracelet number 12 but fell just short.

Jason Mercier has made it a brace of WSOP bracelets after taking down the $5,000 six-max PLO event. The former EPT San Remo winner was one of 15 players who returned for Day 3 at the Rio and he got off to a flying start eliminating Peter Jetten and Devilfish early in the proceedings.

As expected another big field was on hand for one of the more affordable $1,500 No Limit Hold'em events. All told, 2,192 players bought in creating a prize pool of almost $3m with the winner set to walk away with over $500k.

One of the landmark events of the WSOP kicked off yesterday as 240 mixed games specialists put up ten grand to compete in the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship. Despite the presence of both 8-Game and 10-Game Mix tournaments at this WSOP, the ol’ five-game-rotation-spelling-an-animal’s-name variant is still popular.

The surviving players from Day 1 of the $5,000 Omaha 6-max event were lead by Vanessa Selbst into Day 2; now that torch has been passed to Gregory Brooks after he eliminated Selbst in 18th place and takes the chip lead over the final 15 players into Day 3.
