WSOP 2011 – Jason Mercier wins $5,000 PLO six-max

Thursday, 23 June 2011

Jason Mercier has made it a brace of WSOP bracelets after taking down the $5,000 six-max PLO event. The former EPT San Remo winner was one of 15 players who returned for Day 3 at the Rio and he got off to a flying start eliminating Peter Jetten and Devilfish early in the proceedings.

He didn't look back from there, working his way through a final table that included Mike 'Timex' McDonald, Joseph Ressler, David Chiu and Steven Merrifield to set up a showdown with Hans Winzeler.

Heads up play lasted around with two hours with the lead changing hands on several occasions. The chips eventually hit the middle on a 9d4s3d board. Winzeler was just in the lead holding AcKdKcJs but Mercier, who tabled Qc6c5d3s, had plenty of outs. The 10c on the turn changed nothing but the 7h on the river completed Mercier's straight, giving him another WSOP bracelet. The $619,575 firs prize takes Mercier's tournament winnings past the $6m mark.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Jason Mercier $619,575
2 Hans Winzeler $383,075
3 Steven Merrifield $239,100
4 David Chiu $156,628
5 Joe Ressler $105,967
6 Michael McDonald $73,965
