WSOP 2011 – Marvin Rettenmaier leads $2.5k NL Day 1

Wednesday, 22 June 2011

The $2,500 NL event saw a starting field of 1,734 players which created a prize pool of nearly $4m and set a first-place prize of $749,610. Now we are left with just 296 competitors after an action-packed day that saw over 1,400 players bust out.

Dan Fleyshman, Liv Boeree, Isaac Haxton and Sorel Mizzi were some notable eliminations as was Tom “durrrr” Dwan, who played a total of one hand in this tournament. After the dinner break he was down to 4,000 in chips and ran back from the $5,000 PLO 6-max event to move all-in. He was called and his opponent made two pair; Dwan left the tournament having never taken his seat.

Those who did survive include Dwyte Pilgrim, Eric Baldwin, JC Tran, Randal Flowers and Terrence Chan. Leading the way into Day 2 is Marvin Rettenmaier who managed to bag up 174,100 by the end of play.

It was a good day for the UK contingent with Jack Ellwood, Rob Akery and Martins Adeniya all finishing in the top ten in the chip counts at the close of play.
