The cards are back in the air after a 20 minute break at The Empire; 131 players have returned for Level 2 with Pierre Canali still our chip leader on what looks to be around 65,000. We’ve been prowling the hall for familiar faces and thought we’d start with updates on our defending champions.

No one has to worry about being eliminated on the first level of Day 1a of the World Series of Poker. Afteb Ahmed took the hit when his KK couldn’t outdraw the AA of now chip leader Pierre Canali. He has over 60,000 chips before him but is being chased by Remy Biechel and Dan Smith, both of whom have had huge chunks of Vanessa Selbst’s stack.

The action has been hotting up as we move towards the end of the 50/100 blind level. We’ve seen coolers, bluffs and all-ins from some big names in the past half an hour as Vanessa Selbst and Andy Bloch put their tournaments at risk.

The biggest pot we've witnessed thus far came from the Table Of Death II (next to the Table of Death I ft. Mercier, Seidel et al). In fact, that whole area is just full of death tables. Chris Ferguson seems to be up to around 40,000 after winning a big pot.

We told you Allen Kessler, Erik Seidel and Jason Mercier were sharing a table. We were wrong, sorry - Kessler is at the adjacent table and looks as though he's next to Seidel. Perhaps it's an optical illusion caused by bald heads.

Scarcely 30 minutes ago, the first WSOPE champion Annette Obrestad announced that it was time to “shuffle up and deal”. Now the action is underway with so many notable names clustered around the slew of tables throughout The Empire Casino.

So far with tables filling up fast we have spotted Erik Seidel, Allen “chainsaw” Kessler, Ross Boatman and a mop of shocking blonde hair that might well be Viktor Blom – we couldn’t see his face. The tables are filling and chips are being riffled as Jack Effel makes the usual speech.

With less than twenty minutes to go before the beginning of the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event, Bluff Europe has arrived. Setting up on an Internet connection we can only describe as ‘intermittent’ (though that might be more to do with blogger Matt Perry’s ancient laptop) the honchos in suits are labelling tables and setting out chips.
