Level One Summary - Ahmed bust; Selbst in danger

Thursday, 23 September 2010

No one has to worry about being eliminated on the first level of Day 1a of the World Series of Poker. Afteb Ahmed took the hit when his KK couldn’t outdraw the AA of now chip leader Pierre Canali. He has over 60,000 chips before him but is being chased by Remy Biechel and Dan Smith, both of whom have had huge chunks of Vanessa Selbst’s stack.

Selbst may have survived the first level but she is in dire straits upon her return with just 500 chips at 100/200. She made a 3-bet squeeze from the small blind, the pre-flop raiser called but then Remy Biechel made it 3,750 to go. Selbst muttered something about hating these spots but nevertheless 5-bet to 8,750 and called the all-in finding her KK up against AA.

An ace out of the door spelled doom for Selbst and she couldn’t outdraw, left with a single purple chip. Joining her on the shorter stacked club are November Niner Felippe Candio and 2008 champion John Juanda – though with 14,000 and 19,000 respectively they are in better shape than her 2.5BB stack.
