Action underway at WSOPE Main Event

Thursday, 23 September 2010

Scarcely 30 minutes ago, the first WSOPE champion Annette Obrestad announced that it was time to “shuffle up and deal”. Now the action is underway with so many notable names clustered around the slew of tables throughout The Empire Casino.

Spotted so far we have 2008 champion John Juanda as well as fellow Full Tilt Pro Andy Bloch, atypically sans Stetson. Obrestad herself is upstairs at a table with Jason Lester and Chad Brown, who just lost out when he folded his 300 continuation bet to a 1,100 raise on a K-Q-9 board.

We would have said that Obrestad/Brown/Lester was an early contender for the Table of Death title until we saw this one downstairs: Allen Kessler, Erik Seidel, Jason Mercier and sandwiched between them EPT Vilamoura final tabler and former football star Teddy Sheringham, who will be hoping to better his 14th place finish in 2009.

Jeff Lisandro, fresh from winning his fifth bracelet earlier this week for the £5,250 PLO event, seems to have chipped up early – though he is keeping them in a big, mixed-up pile so it’s hard to tell but there were definitely a few extra beige 100 chips in there. We’ve also spotted Vanessa Selbst, Nicolas Levy, Chris Bjorin and Roberto Romanello. More to come, we’re sure.
