First up for the European Team were Finnish duo, Patrik Antonius and Ilari ‘Ziigmund’ Sahamies – they took on Phil Ivey and Huck Seed in an odd tag-team-style heads-up match, where players take it in turn to play each street.

A field of over 150 players in Event #3 of the 2009 Betfair World Series of Poker Europe has been narrowed down to a final nine as the £5,000 PLO event closed yesterday.

Never one to shirk the spotlight 11-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth is once again set to make a spectacular entrance to a World Series of Poker event. The Poker Brat, who has made the grand arrival something of a speciality, turned up at the Rio earlier this year in full Julius Caesar regalia, complete with Roman guards and petal throwing muses.

From a starting field of 154 entrants in the £5,000 + 250 Pot-Limit Omaha event, the action in Event 3 has been whittled down to 36 – just four tables, packed to the brim with big names and big players.

Erik Cajelais or 'Mr Tattoo' as i like to call him (he is smothered in them) has defeated a tough final table to take down Event #2 of the WSOPE. Coming into the final table, Erik was up against some well respected players in the form of Howard Lederer, Men Nguyen, Chris Bjorin and Ian Frazer - but the young Canadian out-muscled his opponents to win the £104,677 first prize and his first World Series bracelet.
