Five Left in WSOPE Event #2 - £2,500 PLHE/PLO

Wednesday, 23 September 2009

A field of 158 has been whittled down to just 5, with play resuming in but a few hours. Mats Gavatin leads the final five in the mixed Hold ‘em/Omaha event after Howard Lederer, Hoyt Corkins and Ian Frazer all hit the rail early.

Full Tilt Poker co-owner Lederer lost a coin flip holding 33 to Gavatin’s AK, a 66AAA board truly sealing the deal and leaving the multiple bracelet-winner with 9th place and £9,117. Ian “The Razor” Frazer was next to leave, his KQs unable to suck out on Richard Gryko’s A6o. The British pro won £11,000 for his 8th place finish. (Frazer has now finished in 12th and 8th place in Event 1 and 2 respectively)

Gryko continued his rampage by eliminating Hoyt Corkins in 7th place, his J6 dominated by KJ after getting most of the chips in pre-flop. Chris Bjorin was next to leave, in a strange hand that saw five of the six players enter the pot in a raised hand.

The Kc-9d-2c flop saw Bjorin bet and call a raise from, you guessed it, Richard Gryko. He showed KQQ2 for kings and deuces while Bjorin’s Jc-Tc-9s-7d offered him a shedload of outs. The rivered Ks, though, made Gryko a full house and eliminated the two-time bracelet-winner.

Play resumes at The Empire in Leicester Square at 2pm today.
