Team Europe win Caesars Cup

The youth of Team Europe have overcome the mighty Americas, winning 4 out of their five bouts.

The Finnish fraternity, made up of Patrik Antonius and Ilari 'Ziigmund' Sahamies, got the Caesars Cup party underway by defeating Phil Ivey and Huck Seed to put Europe 1-0 up. Daniel Negreanu then thought long and hard before deciding to send himself out, along with Phil Hellmuth, to take on the online qualifier John Harvey and Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier. However, to the disappointment of the Kid Brat pairing, the online specialists stood strong to double the lead of Team Europe.

Next to go head-to-head were the two female players, Jennifer Harman and Team Europe captain Annette Obrestad. They were accompanied by the mighty Doyle Brunson and Dario Minieri. This was a must win for the Americas and, to the delight of the rooting bench behind, they duly delivered. 2-1.
Next up for Team Europe was the dastardly Danish duo of Gus Hansen and Peter Eastgate. They were up against Barry Greenstein and John Juanda. However the Danes proved too strong and once again Europe had a convincing lead. 3-1.

With 4 rounds played, action turned to standard heads-up format. When asked who would play the first round of the heads-up game, Team Captain Annette Obrestad stood forward and announced that she would play. Daniel Negreanu had trust in his surfer-dude friend Huck seed and sent him out into the middle to face the young Norwegian.

However, it was not to be for Team America. As Seed and Obrestad announced they were both all-in, the benches from either side stood up to watch the action unfold. Annette tabled A7 and was far in front of Huck’s A3. The board ran out 9 9 7 7 2 and it was all over. Team Europe claimed the inaugural Caesars Cup.
