Yet another 2 players have left the poker room which has now broken down the tournament to one table featuring 9 players.

Leading the remaining 11 players is Mitja Potocin holding a monstrous 293K followed very closely by Bo Sehlstedt with his towering 271K. At third place we find John Van der Bruggen with 199K.

With blinds now at the 14th round at 1,200/2,400 + 300 Antes, and 10,000 raises being the the current norm, this is one of the most gruelling battles that many of the players have encountered in their recent poker tournament history.

There are only 19 players left in the game and the poker room is filled with spectators who are trying to catch the best actions by the remaining players.

We are just a level or two away from getting ‘in the money’ and concentration levels are now at their highest levels. All of the EC Poker Tour players are fully aware that this is one of the most crucial stages of the game.

The game has picked up a relatively quick pace and we are now seeing more frequent pushes at this advanced stage of the game. The first level of blinds today, [9th level all-round] already saw many players out of the tourney, through some overly aggressive or loose plays, some brought about by well-placed traps by their more astute opponents.

Last nights 8th and final level of blinds ended with the Sorel Mizzi in the chip lead followed closely by Bo Sehlstedt and Michael Landmann. The day came to a close at 1:30am where several players retired back to their hotel rooms while some of the more adventurous players headed out for some wild adventures in St. Julian’s, Malta’s nightlife capital.

The players are back after a short, ten minute break. 80 players are left meaning that the average stack is now at 16,250. With the blinds at 60 minute intervals and at the 200/400 level [50 antes], players are now progressing at a more relaxed pace without the pressure from the shorter blinds two levels back.

98 players are left in the game which has taken the average stack to around 13,500 chips. We are now at the 5th level of blinds with players paying 150 and 300 chips for the small blind and the big blind respectively.

Having already passed the first break, many of the players had the opportunity to enjoy some of the light savoury bites and refreshments provided by the very friendly staff at the Casino di Venezia. Players are now back at their tables at the fourth blind level of 100/200, the blinds will soon be extended to 60 minutes from the current 45 minutes, which was blind duration being kept for the first four levels of the tournament
