WPT releases more Alpha8 details

Wednesday, 24 July 2013

After last week announcing the launch of its new Alpha8 super high-roller events, the World Poker Tour (WPT) has now put some meat on the bones with further details on the upcoming series.

The WPT revealed that each Alpha8 tournament will feature eight-handed tables alongside 60-minute blinds and have an entry fee of at least $100,000. The first in the series is due to kick off next month with the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in Florida and players will be able to re-enter as many times as they like during the first four levels.

In a bid to quell the initial dissatisfaction at the $3,500 event rake, the WPT has declared that each re-buy will be rake-free and priced at $96,500.

As a final incentive for high-stakes players, anyone who joins the action will be given three nights’ free accommodation at the hotel in which the tournament is being held.

The first WPT Alpha8 event is now scheduled to take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, over August 26 and 27 and will be filmed for later broadcast in the United States via Fox Sports 1.
