Vanessa Selbst Uses Bankroll For Good

Vanessa Selbst has always worked hard to give something back to the poker community, be it through training videos or exemplary interviews to mainstream media, but her latest venture is seeing her use her winnings for even greater good.

During a recent interview with Observer.com, the high-level pro explained how she's now investing her poker winnings in non-profit start-ups. Wanting to make her money work harder and with more of a conscience, Selbst outlined how she is now something of a venture capitalist in the world of philanthropy.

Over the last few years the American has been involved in a number of charity poker events and organisations, such as REG (a socially minded charity set up by a group of professional poker players), so her move into venture-capitalism of the charitable kind seems to be a natural progression.

"I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I was excited by the idea of using my money to help activists realise a grand vision for change while simultaneously getting to work with the founders on their projects in the beginning stages," said Selbst.

Of course, Selbst is not the only player using her standing in the poker community for good as Daniel Negreanu recently joined a campaign in support of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). But, she appears to be one of the most entrepreneurial with her latest decision to invest in non-profit start-ups forming a natural link with her legal work as a civil rights activist.
