Sam Grafton has won the final leg of the 2012 GUKPT season, outlasting a highly competitive field of 137 runners who had gathered at The Vic over the weekend for the tour's Grand Final Main Event.
With a prizepool of £342,500 the action was electric right out of the gate as Jake Cody managed to triple up within the first orbit. Sat comfortably at the top of the chip counts it looked as though the young pro was on his way to avenging his second place finish to Fabian Quoss last year. However, despite his profitable start, it was Matt Moss who would end the first day as the overall chip leader. Both those were to falter in the final stages though and as the tournament reached a final table it was Grafton, Jon Spinks and Chris Brammer that commanded the most attention. In the end, though, it was Grafton who came away with a memorable one. A much loved player on the UK scene, Sam managed to bank his largest live payday to-date: £102,000, along with his first major title. Last month's Bluff Europe interviewee beat Peter Charalambous to the title, sealing victory when his A4 came from behind to beat Charalambous' pocket 10s.The final table positions and payouts were as follows:1st Sam Grafton £102,7002nd Peter Charalambous £72,8003rd Victor Ilyukhin £45,4004th Matt Moss £28,2505th Jon Spinks £22,2506th George Hassabis £17,1007th Dave Maudlin £13,7008th Sandeep Khosa £10,3009th Chris Brammer £7,700The GUKPT has announced details of its 2013 tour which will feature a huge prize pool of £1.75 million.
