Friday, 13 September 2013

The first of two opening flights for the £400+£40 Stoke leg of the Genting Poker Series is in the book with Josh Venman holding the day 1A chip lead. Venman is no stranger to success on the GPS having finished runner up in last month's leg in Southend which saw him pocket a career best £24,000. He'll start day two with an impressive 227,400.

A day that started with 81 players grew to a total of 137 entries by the close with Jonathan Gill 190,000 and Kyle Hendry 184,700 joining Venman at the head of the leader board. Other notables among the 45 players to survive the day included last year's GPS Edinburgh winner Paul McTaggart 114,300, James 'Epitomised' Atkin 102,200 and DTD Caribbean Poker Party winner Waheed Ashraf 40,500.

Organisers are hopeful of a much bigger day 1b field with up to 350 entrants expected when play resumes at 1pm today.

The Day 1a chip leaders are as follows:

Josh Venman 227700
Jonathan Gill 190000
Kyle Hendry 184700
