Paul McTaggart wins Genting Poker Series Edinburgh

Tuesday, 5 June 2012

While the focus of the poker world has been on the World Series of Poker it was easy to overlook the not so small matter of the latest leg of the Genting Poker Series which took place in Edinburgh this weekend.

387 entrants in the £400+£30 Main Event created a prize pool of almost £155,000 with Paul McTaggart taking home the biggest chunk of it. The Scot worked his way through a field that included the likes of Hendon Mobster Joe Beevers and Barny Boatman (who both made the money) to set up a heads up encounter with our own Paul Jackson.

Anyone hoping for an early night was to be disappointed as the pair served up a five-hour, two-handed marathon. A chop was agreed three hours in with both taking home £30,000 apiece. It took another two hours for McTaggart to seal the extra £2,685 and the trophy when his A10 held up against Jack's short-stacked shove with 6-8.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st Paul McTaggart £32,685
2nd Paul Jackson £30,000
3rd Steve Miller £18,390
4th Christopher McNicholls £14,395
5th Barry Burns £11,455
6th Paul Carnegie £8,670
7th Robert Gregory £6,190
8th Michael Kemp £4,180
9th Gavin Stevenson £2,630
