Duta Tops EPT Barcelona's Day 1B Crowd

Tuesday, 3 September 2013

Day 1B of the PokerStars EPT Barcelona's Main Event came to a conclusion late yesterday evening and when the sound of riffling chips had finally dissipated the 708 starters had been cut to 440.

Indeed, thanks to dominant performances from the likes of Ole Schemion (140,600), Shannon Shorr (121,500) and Christophe De Meulder (111,500) almost 50% of the field were sent to rail over the course of eight levels.

When the last remaining players had left the tournament area and the EPT's number bods had managed to calculate the session's vital statistics it emerged that Florian-Dimitrie Duta was the chip leader. Having bagged an impressive 187,000 chips the Romanian pro will start Day 2 in second place behind the event's overall leader, Dragan Kostic (215,000).

At the time of writing this year's EPT Barcelona Main Event has attracted an impressive 1,226 players; however, that figure could easily increase as registration will be kept open until the start of today's session.

Such an impressive turnout means that this season's opening Main Event has generated a prizepool of more than €6,000,000, which means the eventual winner should walk away with a top prize of around €1,000,000.

Day 2 Top Ten Chip Counts:

Dragan Kostic 215,000
Florian-Dimitrie Duta 187,000
Markus Kivipuro 161,100
Maksim Bura 160,600
