Arrests made after Rio robbery

Monday, 28 February 2011

Police in Las Vegas have arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery at a Las Vegas casino last week. A gunman, wearing a fake moustache, stole $33,000 worth of poker chips from a Pai Gow table at the Rio at 4am on Thursday.

45-year-old Steven Gao is alleged to have grabbed the chips before fleeing the scene in a taxi driven by 61-year-old Hiroyuki Yamaguchi. According to police, Gao then went to another casino where he is believed to have met Edward Land and paid off a gambling debt. Yamaguchi and Land are in police custody but Gao is still at large.

The raid at the Rio comes months after a similar robbery at the Bellagio which saw a thief make off with $1.5m in chips. Police moved quickly and arrested Anthony Corleo who appeared in court last week. Some excellent detective work from a poster on TwoPlusTwo.com proved extremely useful in tracking down the alleged robber. Read the amazing thread here.
