€1.26m for EPT Barcelona Winner
Sunday, 24 August 2014
The final numbers are in at EPT Barcelona and they make impressive reading for tournament organisers PokerStars.
By the time registration had closed at the start of day 2, 1,496 players had ponied up the €5,000 buy-in, making it the biggest EPT event staged on European soil. (The previous record was held by the EPT San Remo won by Liv Boeree).
Leading the charge for the €1,261,000 first prize, is Vojtech Ruzicka. The Czech pro is no stranger to success on the EPT having won the €10k High Roller event in Deauville in season 9 for €313,000. He'll return today with 617,100, almost 100,000 ahead of closest rival Nima Ahrary (519,00).
292 players will still in the chance of a seven-figure payday when the action resumes this lunchtime. That number includes Martin Finger (502,000), Marko Neumann (316,100), Max Pescatori (294,000), Kent Lundmark (237,700), Scott Seiver (216,400), PCA 2013 champion Dimitar Danchev (263,300), Dan Shak (188,400), Mike McDonald (130,200) and November Niners Andoni Larrabe (125,600) and Martin Jacobson (72,000).
