Jusqu'à la diffusion du tournoi sur ESPN il y a quelques jours, on savait juste que Scotty 'The Prince of Poker' Nguyen avait remporté le bracelet pour ce tournoi.
La diffusion du programme nous a malheureusement montré un Scotty qui a dépassé les limites d'un comportement acceptable à une table de poker. Bien que le tournage, édité, puisse montrer une version concentrée qui n'est pas la réalité, il est indéniable que les règles de bonne conduites stipulées dans le règlement du WSOP ont été enfreintes. Même si Scotty s'est depuis expliqué et excusé, ce comportement soulève plusieurs questions plus importantes pour l'avenir du poker. Tout d'abord, bien qu'ayant constaté le comportement inacceptable de Scotty qui insulte d'autres joueurs et montre ses cartes au public durant le jeu, l'équipe officielle du WSOP n'a pas réagit pour stopper la conduite inappropriée. Est-ce acceptable? Ensuite, qu'en est-il de l'idée de considérer le poker comme un sport, où les adversaires font preuve d'un respect mutuel? Espérons que ce tournoi, dédié à Chip Reese, un gentleman s'il en était, marquera le début de l'ère où un comportement abusif à la table est inacceptable.
