PokerStars n'en finit pas de sponsoriser les tournois sur la planète entière. Après l'European Poker Tour et l'Asian Pacific Poker Tour, c'est maintenant au tour du LAPT.
La première étape aura lieu à San Jose le 3 novembre 2008, au Ramada Plaza, Herradura Conference Center. Le buy-in pour cet événement se montera à $3,700 et garantit un prize pool d'un minimum de 1 million de dollars. L'an dernier avait vu se présenter 398 joueurs à l'étape de San Jose, remporté par le Costaricain Valdemar Kwaysser, pour $274.103, qui s'était qualifié sur PokerStars. Il avait gagné contre l'Américain Max Steinberg, qui était reparti avec $144,773 pour la deuxième place.Quelques célébrités s'étaient déplacées pour l'occasion, et en particulier, puisque PokerStars est le sponsor, des membres du team PokerStars Pro. Etaient présents donc, Daniel Negreanu, Isabelle Mercier, Andre Akkari et Humberto Brenes, qui est par ailleurs originaire de Costa Rica.La saison 1 avait seulement trois dates, à San Jose, Rio et Punta Del Este.
