El runner-up del Main Event de la World Series of Poker del 2009, Darvin Moon, ya es el primer embajador del Heartland Poker Tour (HPT).
El HPT fue fundado en 2005 por Todd Anderson y Greg Lang y es un circuito “menor” muy popular en los EEUU. Ofrece una alternativa a los torneos nacionales, centralizados y caros tal como la World Series of Poker (WSOP) y el World Poker Tour (WPT).Una razón para el éxito del HPT is su sistema de “torneos clasificatorios” que mandan hasta 20% del field de cada evento principal del tour. Los clasificatorios tienen un buy-in muy bajo. También le ayuda que muchos de los eventos se celebran en casinos indios lo cual signfica que jugadores desde los 18 años pueden participar. El HPT también tiene su propio programa de televisión que llega hasta 100 million de norteamericanos. Moon fue considerado como “no firmable” por no querer ser patrocinado durante su estancia en la WSOP de 2009 y su llegada a los November Nine. “No quiero un jefe. He llegado hasta aquí yo sólo; no quiero tener que responder a nadie ahora”.Pero con el HPT, dijo: “Estoy muy cómodo con los del HPT.” Son como mi familia”. Moon es un ex leñador de Maryland.
