It looked as if he had the hand under control, but then the bet on the river from Juanda when he could have checked was met by an all in shove by Alekhin.
Juanda was visibly upset by the way the hand had played out. Raising preflop to 55,000, Juanda only had Alekhin as a caller, and the two saw a flop of 2s-5h-6s. The 100,000 bet by Juanda was checked-called by the Russian, who also checked-called a 200,000 bet on the Kh turn. The river was 3h, and Alekhin checked one more time to Juanda, who bet 340,000. Alekhin moved in, stunning the crowd and Juanda alike. Pacing around didn't help John, nor did sitting back in his chair counting his remaining chips over and over. In the end he passed, and a key pot in the 2008 WSOPE Main Event was taken down, once again by Stanislav Alekhin.
