WSOPE Main Event Final Table Update: Bengt Sonert out in fourth

WSOPE Main Event Final Table Update: Bengt Sonert out in fourth

Thursday, 2 October 2008

And so the short-stack has been knocked out. Bengt Sonert was under pressure as the table's shorty, eventually pushing with A-5 into the A-8 of Alekhin.

When the fans were asked to cheer, cheer they did. Sonert was the fan's unofficial cheering favourite, but they had to send their man out with a round of applause in fourth place.

It's been left to the three most aggressive players of the last two hours - Juanda, Demidov and Alekhin - to fight it out for the £868,000 first prize and their slice of poker immortality. There's a definite air of anticipation here - could Demidov REALLY make it two bracelets in two main events in the same year? Wouldn't that just be a bit bonkers....
