WSOPE Main Event: Day 2 Underway

Monday, 29 September 2008

Walking around the floor of Day 2 is like being in poker nirvana. Look one way you have Doyle Brunson handling Dario Alioto and Bruno Fitoussi. The feature table has Phil Laak throwing witticisms from one end of the table, a chirpy chip leader called Daniel catching most of them. Upstairs, tucked away from most of the spectators, Barry Greenstein is sharing stories with Jon Tabatabai while Josh Arieh chews gum to the beat of his iPod. Once again, London is quiet.

In terms of the poker action, it's actually been relatively quiet – amply compensated by Mike Matusow's gas-bagging. The Brits have begun solidly enough, with Surinder Sunar winning a useful pot with a flush on Doyle's table, while Neil Channing has added about 5,000 to his stack. That might not sound a lot, but considering he started on approximately 16,000, we're sure 'Bad Beat' isn't complaining too much.

Another player who has started off on the right foot is Jennifer Tilly. After a very solid Day 1, Ms. Tilly is now on the same table as Nemad Medic and Erik Seidel, and has acquitted herself well so far. That will make Phil Laak a very happy man indeed.
