WSOPE Main Event: Day 1b Concludes

WSOPE Main Event: Day 1b Concludes

Monday, 29 September 2008

What a weird coincidence. Precisely 362 players have entered the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event – the same number as last year. Once again the big names came in force, and some of them have big stacks to match their reputations.

Chip leader from Day 1b is none other than Daniel Negreanu, who bagged roughly 145,000 at the end of the session. Also in close contention are Jamie Rosen, David Benefield and Yuval Bronshtein.

As some prosper others falter though, and there will not be a successful defence of the crown by Annette Obrestad, unfortunate to have her pocket kings run down by the Ace-Queen of Marco Traniello late in the day. Others also out include Allen Cunningham, Jeff Madsen, Sorel Mizzi, Carlos Mortensen, Alex Jacob, Julian Thew, Mike "Timex" McDonald, Antonio Esfandiari, John Phan, and Gus Hansen.

A total of 183 players will gather for Day 2 at The Casino at the Empire, with play kicking off around 1pm local time. We will be on site to let you know all the big movers and shakers as it happens.
