WSOP Europe Event 1: Jesper Hougaard Makes it a WSOP Bracelet Double

Monday, 22 September 2008

He'd looked like he was a contender all the way down from the final three tables. Jesper Hougaard is the winner of the WSOPE £1,500 No Limit Hold'em Event.

The final three fought it out for what seemed like an age, but it was the young American Yevgeniy Timoshenko who buckled first from the triumvirate when his pocket fours couldn't hold off the AJ of Hougaard.

Only five hands later and the champion was crowned. Fuad Serhan had been in seat one almost unnoticed, but before perhaps even he had realised, he was heads-up for the £144,000 first prize. Hougaard wouldn't be denied, although he did need a helping hand from Lady Luck.

As the three had slogged for hours, we thought it would have been a case of two hands colliding which would see a casualty. Perhaps the poker gods were being merciful when they pitted the Ace-King of Serhan against his opponent's Ad-Jd, but when the flop came all diamonds and Hougaard held the nuts, the event was brought to a startling and dramatic end.
