Ziigmund and Durrrr play $500/$1,000 PLO; Dwan wins

Thursday, 23 September 2010

Both Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies are in good ol’ London town at the moment for the World Series of Poker Europe; both however found time to scout around the Full Tilt Poker nosebleed stakes in search of some action that the £1/£2 cash game at The Empire just can’t provide.

They wound up facing off against each other at $500/$1,000 PLO in what proved to be a swingy match across 640 hands. Initially, the Finn was running the show and quickly Sahamies found himself up $500,000 plus. The cards turned in Dwan’s favour though and durrrr ended up leaving the table with almost $300,000 profit.

However, had durrrr lost their biggest pot – or even half of it when it was run twice – then the match would have gone to Ziigmund. The pot was 5-bet by durrrr to create a $36,000 pot pre-flop and the stacks went in on a 2c-7d-8c board. Ziigmund held QT96 for a 17-way straight draw and a backdoor flush draw but Dwan had him dominated with AK98 for top pair plus the nut flush draw. Though Ziigmund made his straight on both boards he couldn’t hold against Dwan’s flush draws on either of the $206,804 pots and Dwan collected more than $400,000.
