WCoOP #33 Reaches Huge $1.24m Prize Pool

Thursday, 17 September 2009

PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker Event #33 was a $500,000 guaranteed affair – a No-Limit Hold ‘em event with a $1,050 buy-in. The guarantee was smashed to pieces, with 1,240 players creating a prize pool 2.5x greater.

Such a huge prize pool guaranteed at least $100,000 for the top three places and over double that for the eventual champion. MUSTAFABET almost made it two final tables for the 2009 WCoOP but finished on the bubble in 10th after his 88 couldn’t outdraw KK.

The final table setup looked like this:

Seat 1: REDDYBABY902 (581233 in chips)
Seat 2: nicelife (1627985 in chips)
Seat 3: shengy (1759378 in chips)
Seat 4: BrynKenney (802863 in chips)
Seat 5: 011PokerDr (672710 in chips)
Seat 6: df1986 (948831 in chips)
Seat 7: scarface_79 (3268082 in chips)
Seat 8: redsxfan3300 (1422678 in chips)
Seat 9: Believer82 (1316240 in chips)

The play was initially slow, with all nine players still remaining at the first break and an average stack of over 40 big blinds. However, soon it got nasty and within hours it was down to three-handed play.

The three remaining players negotiated a deal with the help of Bertrand Grospellier, leaving $10,000 for the eventual winner:

Believer82: $134,892.57
nicelife: $177,084.33
df1986: $150,525.11

Soon after, df1986 made a brave pre-flop call of the aggressive Believer82, showing down 8s-6s to his ATo. An 8 on the flop was enough to reward the ballsy call, taking the action heads-up. There, df1986 continued his aggression to win five out of the first six pots before taking down the tournament when his bottom pair/nut flush draw/gutshot combo outdrew the two pair of nicelife.

The full payouts are below:

1. df1986 (Las Vegas) *$160,525.11
2. nicelife (kasarnei) *$177,084.33
3. Believer82 (murfreesboro) *$134,892.57
