Townsend’s revenge – beats Ziigmund out of $400,000

Tuesday, 4 May 2010

Last week we reported that Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies had beaten CardRunners’ Brian Townsend out of almost half a million dollars playing a few hundred hands of $200/$400 PLO.

Well, Townsend got exemplary revenge. In just 49 hands, Townsend won over $400,000 - $417,000 to be precise – for a phenomenal winrate of $8,400 per hand. That has to be some sort of record for the most money won in the fewest hands.

Their largest pot was obviously not going to break any records – in 49 hands, Ziigmund was dropping so many buy-ins that play didn’t have time to get deep-stacked. However, $170,000 isn’t to be sniffed at. In a 5-bet pot the money naturally went in on a 995r board. Ziigmund held AJ87 for a gutshot... and not much else. Townsend had him crushed with KKAT for an overpair. It held, shipping Townsend the largest pot.

Watch the action live at Full Tilt Poker – a Ziigmund v Townsend rematch is on the cards for sure.
