Tom Dwan loses $820,000 at $300/$600 PLO

Monday, 22 February 2010

Tom Dwan took to the $300/$600 Pot-Limit Omaha tables and didn’t fare too well. Over the course of almost 3,000 hands, the young Team Full Tilt member lost over $820,000 with Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies being the main beneficiary of his torrid run.

Overall, Ziigmund earned a shade over $500,000 which put him as one of the weekend’s highest earners. He also took the largest pot of the day when he won $276,000 with a full house.

Playing five-handed with a $100 ante meant a pot of $1,400 before the flop. Ziigmund raised to $2,600 when it was folded to him on the button and Dwan 3-bet from the big blind for an extra $6,000.

The Finn called the raise in position before calling two small bets on the 3d-Tc-3c flop and Qd turn. The money went in on the 3h river as Dwan mucked to Ziigmund’s Qh-Qs-9h-8s powerhouse hand that turned a full house.
Despite that monster session, Ziigmund couldn’t count that as his largest pot. He and Brian “Stinger88” Hastings played at the same PLO tables where Sahamies won almost $700,000 in total with three-quarters of a million dollars leaving Hastings’s bankroll.

In their largest pot, Hastings put in five bets before the flop as each player committed $56,000. The money went in on a Js-5c-7s flop and Hastings, unsurprisingly, showed Ac-Ad-Jd-Td.

However, Ziigmund’s somewhat imaginative hand of Ks-7d-6s-3d had lots of outs with a gutshot straight draw and the second-nut flush draw. It was an unlikely 3h on the turn that put him ahead with two pair though, and Hastings couldn’t catch a card on the river to take the $426,000 pot.
