PokerStars WCOOP – ‘RaiseOnce’ takes down $25k HU

Monday, 20 September 2010

Who is the man known on PokerStars as RaiseOnce, often seen playing the $200/$400 big bet games and the $500/$1,000 and $1,000/$2,000 Limit Hold ‘em games on the world’s largest poker site? Rumours on the rail pin his identity as being either Phil Ivey or Patrik Antonius; regardless he is a skilled player and proved it last night by taking down the $25,500 Heads-Up event at the WCOOP.

The super-deep match saw 31 players stump up the hefty entry fee to make the prize pool touch the $800,000 milestone. The first round with 10,000 stacks, half-hour levels and 25/50 blinds pitted some great players against each other – Phil Galfond beat Daniel Negreanu; eventual winner RaiseOnce bested Brian Hastings; Isaac Haxton took on and triumphed over mysterious Swede grolongo (Isildur1 perhaps) and Sussie Smith beat out Barry Greenstein.

With four paid each player had to defeat three players to get their money back. In the end RaiseOnce beat PokerStars pro Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier to reach the last four before his final match with SkaiWalkurrrr. The final hand saw SkaiWalkurrrr 6-bet all-in with AA in great shape against QQ – that is, until a Q out the door made for a QKT board leaving SkaiWalkurrrr drawing to six outs. They were duly dodged and the man who might be Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius or someone else entirely earned a $350,000 payday.

The final four payouts were as follows:
1. RaiseOnce ($348,750)
2. SkaiWalkurrr ($193,750)
3. 0Human0 ($116,250)
4. IMALLIN723 ($116,250)
