PokerStars WCOOP – Main Event underway

Monday, 27 September 2010

The World Championship of Online Poker is concluding with the $10,000,000 guaranteed Main Event; it’s a $5,200 buy-in affair that saw 2,443 players enter to create a prize pool of $12,215,000 and shatter the $10,000,000 guarantee.

This means that the top prize is a gigantic $2,278,100 and the top three players will become dollar millionaires. Last year, Yevgeniy Timoshenko took it down to earn $1.7m but this by far surpasses his tournament; this is the biggest tournament in online poker history.

And we have some great line-ups – currently, Jason Mercier and Phil Ivey are sharing a table with the winner of the 50,000,000,000th hand – a $0.02/$0.05 player who is amazingly still in contention for the seven-figure prizes on offer. As we write there are still 332 players alive in the tournament with 306 players cashing – the minimum cash is $9,161.25.

This one has been running for twelve hours as we type and it shows no signs of ending soon.
