Phil Ivey wins $420,000 at Full Tilt Poker this week

Friday, 13 August 2010

Phil Ivey is known for winning vast amounts of money in very few hands online but yesterday was an exception – for Ivey 1,232 hands in a day is bordering on excessive but that won’t matter now that his vast bankroll is $420,000 bigger.

He won a quarter-million dollars in the $300/$600 PLO games against the likes of Cole South and Jani Vilmunen. In their largest pot, South and Ivey contested a 3-bet flop of 5c-7s-Qd when Ivey called South’s continuation bet. South committed himself on the Jh turn and the money went in – he held AQT2 for a gutshot straight draw and one pair, while Ivey had him crushed with AQJ9 for top two pair. South couldn’t hit his king on the river and the $147,000 pot went to Ivey.

After this match Ivey took to the $500/$1,000 CAP NLHE games at Full Tilt Poker, rinsing "durrrr" and "Observer84". Despite his losses to Ivey in PLO, Cole South was the day’s second biggest winner with $290,000 in the bank. Tom “durrrr” Dwan lost almost $170,000.
