Olivier Busquet Wins WCOOP Event 43 - The $10,000 High Roller Heads-Up

Tuesday, 18 September 2012

Olivier Busquet has won one of the most prestigious events of the the PokerStars WCOOP, the $10,000 Heads Up High Roller, after beating fellow Canadian “Helio TYF” in a close fought final. Busquet of course had to face some very tough opponents on his way to victory including the likes of Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.

Although the field was missing some of the top high-stakes heads up cash games specialists such as Kanu7 and Sauce123, it was nonetheless a stacked field of 64, with very few unknowns.

The final hand of the tournament saw Busquet’s 3-bet preflop get called by "Helio TYF" and both saw a 4,5,10 rainbow flop. They ended up getting it all in right there, after Helio's flop 4-bet. Both players were still pretty deep, with Olivier's stack just bigger. Busquet's pocket Kings turned out to be in bad shape against his opponent's 4,5, however the river changed all that when the board paired giving Olivier the bigger two pair, the first-place prize and the WCOOP bracelet. That suckout must have been worth around $90k in EV!

It's also worth noting that 6th place finisher Joel "Odonkor1" Nordkvist also took second place for $23,040 in the $1000 2nd Chance version of this event, with the recent Partouche Main Event winner Ole "wizowizo" Schemion continuing his recent success by coming in 1st for $38,400.

There's still plenty of action to look forward to at this year's WCOOP. Take part at PokerStars with a first deposit bonus of up to £400.
