MTT Review: Two PokerStars Pros battle it out in the Sunday 500.

PokerStars will be thrilled that Full Tilt’s FTOPS tournament series has reached the end of its tenth run, because now we get to talk about their tournaments again.

The $1.5m guaranteed still-oddly-named-the-Million Sunday Million, the Sunday 500 $535 buy-in weekly tournament and even the $11 buy-in Sunday $200k all produced huge prize pools and big first-place wins.

The ‘Million was won by Danny Ryan, a.k.a. THE__D__RY for a cool $190,000. This is the second time in as many weeks that the Sunday Million has almost given a $200,000 first-place prize so we can look forward to that milestone being reached over the coming weeks.

THE__D__RY is no stranger to high-stakes tournaments, having placed 4th in the $1,050 Super Tuesday PokerStars $400k guaranteed for just over $32k and notching up a win in the $200 buy-in turbo $30k guaranteed on Full Tilt for $15k. This experience paid off in the high-pressure situation of a Sunday Million final table.

The Sunday 500 this week was an interesting affair also – it saw not one, but two team PokerStars pros reach the final table. Not only that, but they eventually made it to heads-up to battle it out for a $91,250 first-place prize. Gavin Griffin and Brazilian pro Andre Akkari duelled one-on-one before a sick cooler ended it all:

Both players got it all in on the turn of a Ts-8s-7s-Ad board and the river fell the Td. Griffin held Jc-9c for the flopped nut straight but Akkari had him crushed every step of the way – dominated pre-flop and drawing dead on the flop, his Qs-9s won him the day.
