Kevin Saul Takes Down FTOPS #11

Kevin Saul Takes Down FTOPS #11

Wednesday, 12 August 2009

Looks like it could be the year of the pro when it comes to this incarnation of Full Tilt Poker’s flagship tournament series, the FTOPS. After Team Full Tilt member Andy Bloch came close to taking down the Stud tournament, eventually finishing second; Kevin Saul has won the $200,000 Guaranteed PLO tournament.

Saul has a not-unimpressive poker resume, which features not only a WPT title but over $5m in online and tournament winnings. He adds almost $60,000 and a gold FTOPS jersey to his name – and bank account!

Despite general approval of his playing style on the Two Plus Two forums – and praise from that community is hard to come by – he caused controversy on his way to taking down the event. According to observers there was one hand in particular where Saul tanked facing a pre-flop all-in and typed “goodbye” into the chat, making a show of the fact that his hand wasn’t strong before calling with AAJT double-suited; arguably the strongest pre-flop hand in Pot-Limit Omaha.

Nevertheless, Saul put an impressive performance in to reach and win the final table of a tough event.

In other news, Joe “hoodini10” Udine won over $300,000 for taking down Full Tilt’s $1.5m guaranteed $216 NLHE tournament, better known as FTOPS #12.

You can qualify for the big guaranteed FTOPS events for as little as $1 at Full Tilt Poker.
