Jake Cody wins PokerStars SCOOP Event #2: $2,100 NL

Wednesday, 11 May 2011

When you’ve won the EPT Deauville and the inaugural WPT London in the same year for a combined total of over $1.65m where do you go? Some would say the WSOP is the next logical stop but Jake Cody thought he’d swing by PokerStars and grab a cheeky SCOOP title.

Event 2: H $2,100 NL drew some attention for a big call against Viktor “Isildur1” Blom but it was Jake Cody, under his PokerStars screenname in Y0UR F4CE who triumphed over the 621-strong field to take home $235,000.

Starting heads-up play, Cody held 3.23m and his opponent, Schappuscha, had 2.97m with blinds at 8k/16k. The two played for over an hour and a half with the lead swinging this way and that – twice, Schappuscha reduced Cody to a 3-1 chip deficit and twice Cody battled back.

Finally, with stacks pretty much back where they started and each player over 100BBs deep, the two got all the chips in with Cody holding 8-8 and his opponent flipping with A-Q. An eight on the turn became a full house on the river and Cody took down his first SCOOP watch.

The full final table payouts were as follows:

1.Jake “in Y0UR F4CE” Cody - $235,738
2.Schappuscha - $172,017
3.PKaiser - $126,684
