Isaac Haxton beats Isildur1 in first SuperStar Showdown

Monday, 20 December 2010

The first of the SuperStar Showdowns against legendary online poker player Isildur1, recently signed by PokerStars, went underway last night with Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton going toe-to-toe with the Swedish superstar across four tables of $50/$100 heads-up NL for 2,500 hands. In the end, it was a repeat of their epic ten-tabling match last November with Haxton emerging a winner – this time by $41,701.

Isildur1 got off to a roaring start and had made five figures in less than an hour before Haxton took a couple of pots back to bring things back to even. The lead fluctuated between each player with $50,000 swings fairly commonplace as they battled over the four tables but by the 2,000 hand mark Haxton had made $10,151 and Isildur1 seemingly decided to gamble it up for the win.

Unfortunately for him this didn’t work out and he kept bleeding chips to Haxton, widely considered one of the best heads-up players in the world. He then lost the largest pot of the challenge with a flopped straight against a rivered flush for almost $30,000 before in the last hand, the two got $44,000 in the middle on a 5h-9d-3d-2c-2h board; Isildur1 holding J-9 to Haxton’s K-9.

In the end, Haxton profited $41,701 from Isildur1 during this challenge but it will be interesting to see if they take to the felt again outside of the $50/$100; 2,500 constraints for an even more epic heads-up showdown.
