Full Tilt and PokerStars Both Break Records

Monday, 20 July 2009

Last night Full Tilt Poker attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the most players entered in a single poker tournament – the record previously stood at 35,000 and was set by PokerStars earlier this year. Full Tilt managed to lure in a whopping 50,000 people, reaching the tournament cap and shattering the old World Record. However, PokerStars had ideas of their own...

As part of their FIVE celebrations, commemorating Full Tilt’s five-year anniversary, the site hosted a $5 tournament on Sunday with a guaranteed prize pool of $250,000 and $250,000 added.

50,000 people registered for the tournament and were competing for a $45,000 first prize. Full Tilt would have been awarded the World Record but PokerStars, refusing to let their record be snatched away from them, decided also to hold a world record attempt by hosting a similar tournament with $1 entry and $100,000 guaranteed. This managed to bring together 65,000 people (also reaching the tournament cap) and consequently shattered Full Tilt's attempt at the record.

The players who managed to beat the biggest fields in poker history were breo40 of the US, who took down the Full Tilt Record Breaker for $45,000 and 004licence who won a modest $13,000 for defeating 64,999 people in the PokerStars Guinnes World Record.
