Eugene Katchalov next PokerStars SuperStar Showdown contender

Tuesday, 8 February 2011

Viktor Blom, the man behind the Isildur1 moniker and latest PokerStars Pro, is so far two for one in SuperStar Showdowns after a loss to Isaac Haxton and wins against Daniel Cates and Tony G. This Sunday he takes on Eugene Katchalov, the winner of the 2011 PCA High Roller event for $1.5m and a man considered the world’s best tournament player.

Katchalov’s cash game chops (that was fun to write) are not to be sniffed at, either. He has made appearances on the PokerStars Big Game and plays high stakes cash online under the PokerStars screenname myrabbifoo. He takes on Isildur1 this Sunday at 3pm ET for 2,500 hands of $50/$100 on a $150,000 bankroll.

In the first SuperStar Showdown, Isildur1 dominated proceedings against Isaac Haxton for several hours before losing a little over $40,000; next up was Tony G who performed above expectations but still lost just under $50,000 to erase Blom’s SuperStar Showdown deficit. Then came Daniel “w00ki3z” Cates, better known on Full Tilt as jungleman12, who lost $50,000 plus over 2,500 hands.
