Busy month on PokerStars

Wednesday, 28 January 2009

This month at PokerStars things have been a little busier. In addition to the Sunday majors, the monthly Battle of the Planets Triple Shootout took place. This Sit n Go competition allows all SnG players to compete equally whether they play $1.10 tournaments or $5,000 tournaments.

This month the shootout was won by ISANI, who took home $125,000. Starting heads-up play against KK-DOG4 with a 3-1 chip lead, the underdog doubled through once. But, after just 15 hands, the day was won – ISANI raised to 3x the BB and KK-DOG4 pushed for the remainder of his stack. The eventual winner insta-called with 99 to find himself way ahead of A2o. The pocket pair held up to take down the tournament and $12,500.
The Sunday Million paid out a truckload of cash this week – after a three-way chop the top 3 finishers received six figures each:
jnic00 (36,806,422 in chips) = $148,788.86
marmotte21 (25,926,343 in chips) = $132,696.59
i_lv_beer (22,267,235 in chips) = $127,284.55
Eventually jnic00 defeated i_lv_beer (a contender for best screenname ever in Bluff’s opinion) after a runner-runner straight following a bluff doubled jnic00 and left the beer-lover dead in the water with only $2.5m. He ran that back up to just over $13,000,000 before shoving with Ks-3s. jnic00 made the call with A6o and the blank board shipped him the extra $30,000.
Also, as it was the final Sunday of the month, PokerStars ran its 5,000FPP buy-in Turbo Takedown. The $100,000 first-place prize was won by vballbobbi.
