Alexander Kostritsyn wins PokerStars WCOOP Event #9

Friday, 10 September 2010

The first of the two-day, big buy-in World Championship of Online Poker events busted the $1,000,000 guarantee wide open as 1,612 players entered the $1,050 NL event. Day 1 ended with the bubble burst and 180 players guaranteed to double their money.

Andre Akkari, Daniel Negreanu and Joe Cada all made it back to play out Day 2 but none came to the final table. Akkari lasted longest when he busted in 25th place and the final table was set a few hours later with each player guaranteed at least $16,000.

Alexander “joiso” Kostritsyn came to the final table second in chips but only a few big blinds behind chip leader YanniYankiev’s 2,513,003 at 12,500/25,000. He wound up in third place after a surge from 7Be/\Ec7 left YanniYankiev the short stack three-handed – he lost out with 77 vs A9 to leave Kostritsyn with a near 2:1 chip lead.

The final hand saw a series of raises push the money in pre-flop; Kostritsyn holding Jc-Js and 7Be/\Ec7 revealing As-7c. The Ac-Tc-2c flop pushed the shorter stack ahead but a 5c turn left him drawing dead to the jack-high flush. He collected just under $200,000; the full final table payouts were as follows:

1st place: joiso ($269,284.60)
2nd place: 7Be/\eC7 ($196,664.00)
3rd place: YanniYankiev ($148,304.00)
4th place: China_White1 ($109,616.00)
5th place: Horozic ($78,988.00)
6th place: koncert888 ($62,868.00)
7th place: rizz13 ($46,748.00)
8th place: hwtd1 ($30,628.00)
9th place: Bo$$playa425 ($16,764.00)
