Zuhair Razook wins June's Fox Poker Club Main Event

Monday, 6 June 2011

After all the wins by youngsters lately it's nice to see that there's still room for the, shall we say, more mature gentleman to succeed. Zuhair Razook put all the experience garnered in his 55-years to excellent use this weekend by taking the latest Fox Poker Club Main Event.

The Iraqi-born businessman, who now calls Wembley Park home, pocketed a first prize of £7,478 after outlasting a final table that included Kirit Patel (who made his third Fox Main Event final table in a row) and Khoa Nguyen.

With play three-handed Razook agreed a chop with Jay 'Ratty' Samani and World Heads Up Poker Championship runner up Leon Louis with all three taking home £6,476 before playing on for an extra grand.

Razook needed a bit of luck to eliminate Samani in third, flopping a set of eights to crush Samani's pocket tens. Eights will no doubt be Razook's favourite hand as he was holding them again when he sealed the title moments later. All the chips went in on a Jc7d6c board with Louis holding Kc7c for middle pair and a flush draw. A 10d on the turn and the 10h on the river gave Louis no help leaving Razook to celebrate the biggest tournament win of his career.

The full payouts were as follows:

1 Zuhair Razook £7,478
2 Leon Louis £6,476
3 Jay “Ratty” Samani £6,476
4 Khoa Nguyen £2,810
5 Terence Mitford £2,180

8 Lee Boys £940
