This year’s WCOOP has drawn to a close with Yevgeniy ‘Jovial Gent’ Timoshenko taking the showpiece main event. The Ukrainian born pro outlasted a mammoth field of 2,144 runners to take home the first prize of $1,715,200. The million-dollar payday was only his second highest cash this year though. The 21-year-old, who now lives in Washington State, won the season 7 World Poker Tour Championship in April for a massive score of $2,149,960.

Not content with winning the big one, Timoshenko also bought in for Monday’s $1k event on Full Tilt and took that down, adding another $75k to his bankroll.

A special mention should also go to Daniel Kelly who followed up his victory in the $10,300 High Roller HORSE event by reaching the final table of the Main Event. The American, who took down $252,320 in the HORSE, finished in fourth place in the Main Event for a further $643,200.00.

The 2009 WCOOP certainly lived up to the pre-festival hype with players from 140 countries throughout the world competing for prize money that topped a whopping $51m for the 45 events.
