Xavier Carruggi leads EPT Barcelona into Day 3

Tuesday, 30 August 2011

The past Bank Holiday weekend saw mixed weather, Reading festival and Matt Perry’s birthday but the show was stolen by the record-breaking PokerStars.net European Poker Tour Barcelona event, which attracted 407 players for the largest poker tournament held in Spain.

After three opening flights and a Day 2, just 141 players remain in contention with two Frenchman topping the counts – Guillaume Darcourt began Day 2 with the chip lead and finished it with a top ten stack; Xavier Carruggi snatched the lead late in the day and takes it into Day 3.

Just 21 players will bust today without seeing a return, but since the field is so pro-heavy at this point we know that everyone is playing to win. Vanessa Selbst is the highest-placed Team Pro in the field, sneaking into the top ten with 364,500. She is ahead of many other big names including Eugene Katchalov, Chris Moorman, Leo Margets, Alex Kravchenko and Andre Akkari.

The first prize for the event is a tasty €850,000 with every one of the 120 players cashing will have locked up at least €8,000.
