Daniel Negreanu has joined the big names to have fallen in the feeding frenzy that marks the early stages of the World Series of Poker Main Event. He thought hard before calling the other player’s all-in bet, but called anyway and saw his two pair ousted by three of a kind.
Despite a drop in numbers and a fall in the value of the top spot from $12m to $8.25, the first few days of the Main Event were still the understandable chaos. However, as player numbers reduce, things have calmed down.
Vinny Vinh could not help his chair raise its game, as it wouldn’t call any bets and blinded him into obscurity. Other players who busted out include Brad Daugherty, Steve Dannenmann, Allen Cunningham, Bill Gazes, Susie Isaacs, Phil Gordon and Jason Alexander of 'Seinfeld' fame.
Gus ‘The Great Dane’ Hansen is flying the flag for the sport’s big names, currently sitting in second place with $530,000 in chips, behind leader Rain Khan. Only 5,000 behind Hansen is Brent Sheirbon, and Robert Nehorayan, Bill Edler and Richard Weisman who are all tied in fourth with 510,000. Day three will start with only 606 players.
